Who Is Dr. James Wani Igga?
H.E. Vice President of the Republic of South Sudan and SPLM Deputy Chairman, Gen. James Wanni Igga was born in 1949 in Kirilo Village, Juba County, Sudan (South). He attended his basic education in the Bush school, Karpeto-Lobonok between 1959-61. Later studied at Okaro Intermediate School, Tong and Rumbek Intermediate School.

Wanni Igga later studied at the Faculty of Economics and Management at Cairo University in Egypt from 1975 to 1979. From 1979 to 1982 he worked with Sudanese Insurance and Reinsurance Co. Ltd. From 1982 to 1985 he worked as technical Manager for Regional Insurance Co. as parastatal of Ministry of Finance. From 1978 to 1983 he was elected as Chairman of JAPO for total independence of South Sudan.
 
Early Life
In 1965, Dr. Wani Igga worked as a Anya Nya one Scout. In 1967-1968, he worked in Flanned Factory Co. Ltd, as Operator. In 1969 he worked in Bata Shoe Co. Ltd as Operator. In 1970, he was elected as the Chairman of Christian Student (YCS) Association. In 1972-1974, Dr.Wanni Igga was elected into the Rumbek Secondary School Student Union (SOSSA). In 1987-1992 he was the SPLM/A Zonal Commander of Central and Western Equatoria. In 1992-1994, he was appointed as the SPLA Chief of Operations. In 1994-2005, he became the SPLA Secretary General and Secretary of Finance and Economic Development. In 2002 to date, he has been serving as the SPLM Deputy Chairman. In 2005-2013, he served as the Speaker of South Sudan Legislative Assembly (SSLA). In December 2013, go date, he is serving as a Vice President of the Republic of South Sudan, for Economic Cluster.

Author
Dr. Wanni Igga is also an author with multiple books published under his name. In addition, he completed Master’s Degree in Transformational Leadership and Change from the University of Greenwich, United Kingdom. On the 29th of March, 2017, he graduated and achieved a PhD in Bulacan State University, Philippines. On the 12th of June, 2019, he received an award on Sustainable Peace and Development from the council in India. Because of having written various books and scholarly articles, the University of Juba appointing committee awarded him with the title of Professor. Thus, Generalship and Professorship being a rare commodity.
